ČEZ Trading

Eyes everywhere

A smile is cheaper than electricity, but radiates more light. This is even more true these days. However, the ČEZ Group is taking care to ensure that households, companies, and institutions have enough energy for everything. Traders from ČEZ are therefore active in the wholesale markets across Europe, and are moving into new territories – not just with electricity products, but also other commodities.

The energy industry is a highly strategic branch and helps guarantee the stability of the company. Energy trading is a complex system and one that has recently been characterised by high volatility and price variations. It is one of the markets that never sleeps, with trading taking place 24 hours a day. The key employees of any energy company are therefore its traders and controllers, and their work can be compared to an extreme sport. It is for them that we created the new office space.

Everything to hand

The architectural study was produced by the experienced team from Červený klobouk. The main theme was practicality. Everything is to hand, nothing has been allowed to get in the way, and with respect to the demanding nature of the work, comfort is the key feature. A special interior arrangement was constructed, and it was then down to us to supply and instal both standard and bespoke furnishings.

The coordinated colour palette is based on the corporate design. Orange screens, that separate the workstations at eye level, symbolise energy and abundance, whilst the green ergonomic chairs represent renewable energy.

Bullseye

The greatest challenge that we had in delivering this project was the system for securing the monitor holders using the “toolbar” multi-level track system. In order that the controllers have all information to hand, they use up to five monitors at once. The construction must therefore be very stable.

Furniture is always a silent witness to the activities of the office. In order to eliminate the stress of the employees, which arises from the strong emotions they experience during their work, we tried to select devices that are easy to operate. We supplied the tried and tested Freedom chair, which adjusts to individual users and allows free movement and change of seating position without the need for adjusting the chair using levers, and the popular height-adjustable desks. Whilst the traders have standard straight desks, the controllers have L-shaped desks so that they have the largest possible space for necessary items. We also added an additional practical gadget to their desks - a height adjustment controller with memory.

Separated and yet together

Both teams are separated from each other by a glazed partition. The controller section is entered using a chip entry system. In addition to work space designed to promote concentration, there is also a separate kitchenette and wardrobe here. The kitchenette furnishings have been chosen to ensure the maximum comfort and convenience of all the controllers here. In the Trading Department things are livelier. Regular discussions and on-line meetings are held here, and for these there are three meeting rooms with wall mounted TV screens.

A miracle in three days

They say that opportunities can be found among problems, and we can only agree with this sentiment. The current difficult international situation with deliveries affected this project despite our best efforts, as a key component was stuck overseas. In the end our endeavours paid off and we managed to source the component locally, and are very pleased that we could successfully complete the order.
